From the beginning of this month, Enterprise Great Lake Taupō (EGLT) will manage the New Zealand Clean Energy Centre (NZCEC).

Managing the NZCEC fits well with EGLT’s sustainability focus and with their aim to drive and facilitate economic growth and development to the Taupō District by networking, providing collaborative business opportunities and connecting people.

“Our District has some of the best clean energy resources in the world, especially geothermal, hydro and biomass resources,” says Sue de Bievre, Chair of the EGLT board.  “The Lake Taupō Development Company had great foresight creating New Zealand’s Clean Energy Centre in Taupō and we look forward to enhancing their achievements.”

A first step is to connect and consult with all industry stakeholders. Mathew Simmons, newly appointed to the EGLT team, will manage this process, as well as, help develop NZCEC’s strategic direction. Plans are also in place for NZCEC to become a service hub for incubator businesses and new entrepreneurs.

In 2011 Sue de Bievre began the ‘Shed to Stock Exchange’, programme which identifies and helps exportable, scalable and commercial ideas to get going.  “There are lots of things we can do differently in business and this District is already looking at ideas for creating high growth business,” says Sue de Bievre.

“EGLT’s role is to help facilitate the process, connect people and help add value to how we use our natural resources.”

The NZCEC was established to accelerate the use of clean energy solutions by industry, communities, businesses and households in New Zealand. The building, on SH1, opened in 2011.
