New Waikato Museum Director appointed
Hamilton City Council has appointed Cherie Meecham as its new Director of the Waikato Museum.
Cherie is currently at Rotorua Museum where she has been Deputy Director for the past six years.
Cherie has fostered strong relationships with the tourism industry, iwi and the local community, has a very strong network of relationships nationally and has overseen significant upgrades and exhibitions, including the $23 million redevelopment of the Rotorua Bathhouse building and Rotorua Museum.
Hamilton City Council General Manager Community Lance Vervoort said: “We are delighted to have recruited someone of Cherie’s calibre, from a strong range of candidates, to this important leadership role and she brings with her a vast range of experience and skills which will add significant value to the Waikato Museum and the services it provides.”
Commenting on her appointment, Cherie Meecham says: “I am very excited to be joining the Waikato Museum and further enhancing the important role it plays in telling the stories of the Waikato and providing an exciting place where visitors and the local community can have enjoyable, entertaining experiences.”
Exhibitions Manager Andy Lowe has been Acting Museum Director since the departure of Kate Vusoniwailala in January this year.
Cherie joins the Waikato Museum in mid-June.
