Car Park's Overnight Lock-out to Vehicles
Car burn-outs and late-night gatherings have prompted the night-time closure of the Buller Street car park in New Plymouth.
From tomorrow (Saturday) the gates to this car park, next to the East End Reserve playground, will be locked from 8.30pm to 6.00am every evening.
“We’ve had to take this action because of activities that have been taking place in the car park in recent months,” says Manager Parks Programmes Steve McGill.
“Residents have complained about cars doing burn-outs and about other loud noises in the car park late at night. The police and the Council have discussed the best way to manage the situation, and it has come down to closing off vehicle access overnight.”
The issues began about three months ago and had not abated over time.
“It has been an ongoing issue for the adjacent neighbours. By stopping overnight vehicle access we should be putting an end to the problem,” says Mr McGill.
