WELLINGTON CITY

Anyone looking to try out a new indoor sport this winter should bring their trainers and sports kit along to the ASB Sports Centre's open day this Sunday 22 April.

The open day at this state-of-the-art facility in Kilbirnie will showcase the various social sport leagues on offer before the next season's competitions kick off from 23 April.

The sporting associations that run the social leagues at the centre will stage demonstration games for people to join in if they want to have a go, and be on hand to answer any queries.

Social league games are fast-paced with the emphasis on fun - many teams are made up of friends and work colleagues but individuals can also sign up.

Teams play weekly games in Futsal (indoor football), korfball (similar to netball and basketball) and floorball, which is a type of indoor hockey played with lightweight sticks. Also on offer are netball, basketball, volleyball, turbo touch and ultimate Frisbee.

The open day will also cater for families - the stars of the Pulse netball team will be on hand to provide various activities, and pose for photos and autographs. The cafe at the centre will be open, and there is plenty of free parking.
