Labour MPs based in Christchurch have this morning expressed their heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Larry Ross who passed away yesterday morning.

Larry Ross was a strident anti-nuclear campaigner, an advocate for peace and a loyal Cantabrian.

Our thoughts are with his children, extended family and network of friends, the Labour MPs said.

“Larry was one of the New Zealanders who led the public strength and understanding of antinuclear feeling,” Ruth Dyson said. “This flowed through Labour, becoming our policy which we implemented after being elected in 1984. I have known Larry since those days and know that he has never wavered in his passion or commitment for peace.”

Lianne Dalziel said that Larry devoted his life to the cause of peace through his anti-nuclear advocacy.

“Larry was always willing to share his incredible wealth of knowledge with others, something I benefitted from as a new MP over two decades ago. His was truly a life of purpose.”

Larry led the organisation of the New Zealand Nuclear-Free Peacemaking Association and was a founding member of the Christchurch Unitarian Universalist Fellowship. His efforts on the New Zealand Nuclear Weapon Free Zone Committee in 1981 helped shape our country’s strong anti-nuclear ethos.
