Miriam Margolyes Supporting Isaac Theatre Royal With Fundraiser
Award-winning actress Miriam Margolyes will host a “Very Intimate” Literary Liaison with all proceeds being donated to the rebuild and restoration of the Isaac Theatre Royal in Christchurch.
Margolyes, who is in New Zealand in May touring her one woman show “Dickens’ Women”, says she felt incredibly sad when she heard about the damage at the theatre and, like actor Sir Ian McKellen and Kiwi comedy duo, Flight of the Conchords, wanted to do something to help.
“I am thrilled to have the chance to help the Theatre Royal in some way,” she says. “Everyone has to do what they can … Theatre is not just entertainment, it is about a place in your soul,” she says.
Miriam Margolyes is a little different to most actors. She has done Dickens, Harry Potter, Blackadder and was recently described by a New Zealand reporter as “Saucy at Seventy”. Her body of work over many years will provide an entertaining backdrop for this “Very Intimate Literary Liaison” event.
Note: Miriam will host the fundraising event on Fri 11th May and then perform Dickens' Women at the Aurora Centre on Saturday May 12.
