Being a loyal and devoted volunteer will have its reward for a number of people, when they are presented with a Hastings District Council Civic Award.

The 2012 awards will honour seven individuals and one group at a ceremony to be held in the Assembly Room at the Hawke’s Bay Opera House on Monday May 7th at 6pm.

Award nominations were received for people from all walks of life and the winners have been selected by the council’s Civic Pride committee.

The awards are to be presented by Hastings Mayor Lawrence Yule. He says “Each person to receive an award has made a significant contribution to the community and put in countless hours of voluntary work. Many of the recipients have also passed their knowledge on to others, so that the expertise they have gained over many years of voluntary work will be of value to the community in the future.”

“These awards recognise our stand-out volunteers for their dedication, perseverance and tenacity in fulfilling a desire to serve the community. The awards are recognition of council’s gratitude to these people, who have shown incredible dedication over what has generally been a long period of time,” Lawrence Yule says.

The guest speaker at the 2012 Civic Awards ceremony will be Flaxmere Councillor and 2012 Kiwibank New Zealander of the Year Local Heroes award winner, Henare O’Keefe QSM,JP.

Awards will be presented in the health and welfare, sports and recreation and arts and culture categories. The public is welcome to attend the ceremony and should ring Cheryl Paget on 8715000 to register.
