Families are in for a treat of the senses on Monday 5th November, with a program set to be a light, sound and atmospheric sensation - but you'll need to tune your headphones into The Breeze 94.5 FM.

The Paul Kelly Motor Company Fireworks Spectacular will start off with a brand new “light-chasing” sequence under the New Brighton Pier.

Individually controllable light fittings attached to each column on the Pier will dance to a specially programmed arrangement for 10 minutes from 9 pm, illuminating the length of the pier in rolling sequences of colour, before the fireworks burst into the skies at 9.10 pm.

The new lighting, designed by Grant Robertson from The LightSite, was commissioned by the Christchurch City Council as an initiative to enliven the pier and add atmosphere to this Christchurch landmark, and was installed about six months ago with light fittings that use a low amount of power, are clean, green and have a long lamp life.

Then at 9.10 pm, the moment the watching city has been holding its breath for arrives, when the Paul Kelly Motor Company Fireworks Spectacular lifts the event skyward.

Fireworks company Fused FX have designed a show with hundreds of pyrotechnic components utilising the length of the pier, a spectacle which has been choreographed to the soundtrack of “Wandering Eye” by Fat Freddies Drop.

“This music works well for fireworks as there are several quiet moments, drum lifts, tempo changes and highlight points,” says Mark Hakaraia, of Fused FX.

Tune in to The Breeze 94.5 FM to enjoy the full audiovisual experience.
