Changes Coming for Powderham Street Drivers
The replacement of 90-year-old stormwater pipes will require slower speeds along part of the city’s one-way system for the next seven weeks.
From Monday (30 April) the two lanes along Powderham Street between Brougham and Carrington streets will be shifted to the left to make way for the upgrade. A 30km/h speed limit will be in place.
“Powderham is a busy part of the CBD’s road network so we ask drivers to be patient and be aware of the altered road markings during the project,” says Manager Projects Mark Hall.
About 48m of new pipe will be laid.
“The pipes are nearly 90 years so they’re due for replacement,” says Mr Hall. “This work will also stop localised flooding into The Mill building during high rainfall.”
This work will be finished by the end of June.
