Declaration of Result of Amalgamation Poll

Poll to Decide on the Proposal to Unite Tasman District and Nelson City and to form a Nelson Tasman District Council
In accordance with section 86 of the Local Electoral Act 2001, I hereby declare the results for the Amalgamation Poll held on Saturday 21st April 2012.
- Votes cast FOR the Proposal 5,802
- Votes cast AGAINST the Proposal 16,873
- Informal voting documents 5
- Blank voting documents 40
The voting return percentage was 63.83% being 22,563 voting papers excluding special votes.
The majority of those electors in Tasman District who voted in the Poll voted AGAINST the Proposal.
A Poll was also held concurrently in Nelson City. The majority of those electors in Nelson City who voted in the Poll voted FOR the Proposal.
I therefore declare that the Proposal to Unite Tasman District and Nelson City and to form a Nelson Tasman District Council was DEFEATED.
