A section of Ward Street at the Worley Place intersection will be closed for the next two weeks as the last of the CityHeart development work is carried out.

The closure from Monday, 7 May (9am) until the week starting 21 May (weather permitting) will enable the construction of the new Ward St/Worley Place intersection, ahead of the opening of the new shared zone in early June.

The design of the new intersection will allow Ward St between Worley Place and Victoria St to be opened up to two-way traffic in future.

During the temporary road closure, vehicles will be able to travel along Ward St between Worley Pl and Victoria St in two directions, and gain access to Worley Pl via Ward Lane. Access to Ward Street via Anglesea St will remain open with restricted turning space.

CityHeart Project Manager Jason Harrison said the construction of the intersection will tie together the work previously carried out along Ward St with the new section of shared zone in Worley Place.

“Once this intersection work is complete and the new shared zone in Worley Place opens next month, access through this area will be enhanced and will encourage more people into this key area of the city,” he said.

“We acknowledge the ongoing support we’ve received from local businesses and appreciate the public’s patience while this work is carried out.

“The CityHeart project has been carried out in a number of stages over the past few years.  It is exciting to now be able to be nearing completion of the final stage of the project and see the different elements come together to provide an enhanced experience for those spending time the central city.”
