Hastings District Youth Council is encouraging young entertainers to demonstrate their talents, as part of national Youth Week 2012.

Anyone who can play an instrument, sing or dance is being encouraged to come to the Hastings CBD on Saturday May 19th, to take part in Busk’d.

Youth Council member Hemi Manaena says “Youth Week 2012 involves youths organising events which are of interest to and involve young people in the community. The Youth Council has created Busk’d, which encourages anyone between the ages of 12 and 24 to showcase their creativity and talent.”

“The Youth Council believes there is a large pool of untapped young talent around the region and this is a fantastic opportunity for those people to get out in front of the community,” Hemi Manaena says.

Youth Council Chairman Rebekah Cherry says their 2012 calendar includes a number of exciting activities. She says “We are looking forward to seeing a large number of young entertainers on the streets of Hastings for Busk’d and later in the year, there is the opening of the new Skate+Park. This will be a great boost to skaters and BMX riders in Hastings. Council members are also looking at organising a graffiti cleanup day in a Hastings suburb.”

Busk’d runs from 10am to 4pm in Hastings CBD on Saturday May 19th. Anyone wanting to be involved should contact Rebekah Cherry at beka_cherry@live.com  or Paddy Steffert at paddys@HDC.govt.nz or phone 8715000.

The Hastings District Youth Council has 15 members who are aged between 15 and 20. The council meets every two weeks with the aim of putting forward the views and concerns of young people to the Hastings District Council.

Youth week 2012 aims to raise the profile of youth projects, highlight the talents of young people and recognise their contribution to the community. Youth Week 2012 runs from May 19th to 27th
