Awards recognise youth potential

<p>Hastings District Council will honour high performing young people during the inaugural Youth Potential awards ceremony.</p> <p>The awards are designed to celebrate the achievement and success of young people in provider programmes, with a focus on youth from the Flaxmere and Camberley communities.</p> <p>Nominations have been received from local youth service providers with the judging being coordinated by the Social Well Being forum.</p> <p>The judging panel included representatives from the Department of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Social Development, Te Puni Kokiri &ndash; Ministry of Maori Development and Hastings District Council. Awards will be made in the categories of outstanding male, female, group and ambassador.</p> <p>Hastings Deputy Mayor Cynthia Bowers says &ldquo;The awards recognise young people who have shown commitment and dedication to the programmes which are being provided by a number of different agencies. We believe the recipients of these awards will help the district grow and inspire others to bigger and better things.&rdquo;</p> <p>Cynthia Bowers says &ldquo;The Youth Potential ambassador award is very special. It will go to a young person the section panel believes has shown exceptional commitment to a project or given outstanding service and dedication to a provider organisation.&rdquo;</p> <p>The Youth Potential awards will be presented at a ceremony to be held in the Hastings District Council Chambers on Monday May 21st at 6pm. The guest speakers are ex All Black and Hawke&rsquo;s Bay Magpies rugby player Danny Lee and Riverslea School Principal Morris Rehu.</p>
