Derek has come up trumps for the council.

At a gala dinner and awards ceremony held recently in Auckland, senior drainage and plumbing officer Derek Staines was recognised for his involvement in the preparation of a training package.

He won the MiTec New Zealand Training Commitment Award at the Building Officials Institute of New Zealand’s 2012 Excellence Awards.

The training package deals with metal tile roofing and roof underlays and will be introduced nationally in the next month or so.

It is the second year in a row a Hutt City Council officer has won an award at the institute’s annual event. Last year, performance assurance manager Colin Clench won the NZ Standards Award for his work on NZS 3604, the standard governing timber-framed housing.
