Christchurch residents are being asked for their views on the proposed urban development of Christchurch’s Upper Styx-Harewood area (Plan Change 71).

The City Council is preparing an Outline Development Plan for the area, which will provide the framework for future development of the new suburb, says Council Regulatory & Planning Committee Chair Councillor Sue Wells.

“The Outline Development Plan will show the main roads which will run through the area, the stormwater and detention areas, recreation and other reserves and the various densities of housing.  It will also include the possible locations for neighbourhood shops, pedestrian links and cycleways.”

Cr Wells says under the Canterbury Regional Policy Statement the new suburb will provide for a minimum density of 15 households per hectare.

“The development in the Upper Styx-Harewood area will provide a choice of living options, the Outline Development Plan will identify where the higher density residential housing would be located in the area.”

A community information evening on the proposed urban development of the area will be held at the Cotswold School Hall, Cotswold Avenue, Bishopdale, from 4pm to 7pm next Tuesday 22 May.

Council staff and their consultants will be on site to discuss what information is already known about the site and what the layout of the future suburb could be, as well as to answer any questions.

More information is available on the Council’s website www.ccc.govt.nz/haveyoursay/

Comments on the proposed urban development of the Upper Styx-Harewood area closes at 5pm on Monday 18 June.
