Mayor Frana Cardno re-elected as Zone 6 National Council Representative
Southland District Council Mayor Frana Cardno was re-elected unopposed to the position of Zone 6 National Council Representative at the Zone 6 Meeting in Gore last week.
Zone representatives are elected every three years, after the triennial elections and hold office until the next local government elections (2010). There are 15 members on National Council who meet with the Prime Minister and Cabinet regularly to look at national issues affecting local government.
Zone 6 represents the interests of the lower South Island and its membership consists of the 10 local government organisations from Waitaki District Council south to Southland District Council.
Mayor Frana Cardno said, “It is truly an honour to be re-elected as Zone 6 National Council Representative and I look forward to representing the south and making sure that our voice is heard nationally.”
