The tradition of the pinhole camera will create an immersive experience for visitors to Waters Above Waters Below. The exhibition is the third in the Rolling Maul series, a part of Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetu’s Outer Spaces programme.

Hannah and Aaron Beehre’s exhibition will interrupt and subvert the view from the first-floor windows of the NG space in Madras Street to create an installation that connects visitors with the transformative moments beneath the surface of the everyday, says Christchurch Art Gallery Curator Felicity Milburn.

“Hannah and Aaron have a proven track record for engaging, intriguing projects that reveal the world in unexpected ways. They work collaboratively, each bringing their own skills and sensibilities to each project.

Their recent work has reflected their interest  in representing the ‘Sublime’ aspects of nature, but not on its usual grand scale – rather presenting intense moments in a personal, intimate and often interactive way.

“In alluding to poetic mythologies, fantasy geology and pseudo-scientific theories the artists stake a claim for the return of the Sublime.”

The exhibition opens to the public Saturday 26 May to 17 June 2012 at NG, 212 Madras Street. Opening hours: Monday to Friday 10am to 5pm, Saturday and Sunday 10am to 4pm.
