This report compares rates of household crowding in New Zealand with similar countries overseas (Australia, countries of the United Kingdom, Canada, and the United States). It aims to identify whether crowding was higher or lower in New Zealand and if there are similar patterns for the people that crowding affects.

Although the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) produces comparative crowding indicators (using the people per room measure), this report compares crowding in selected countries by using three different measures.
