More than 600 people entered the recent 'speed on bends kills' competition and the winner of a set of tyres sponsored by Fulton Hogan was Lindsay Carey.

Winner of this year’s 'speed on bends kills' competition in the Whangarei Leader, Lindsay Caley, is very pleased to receive the prize of a new set of tyres, as his are nearly due for replacement.

Mr Caley was one of 658 entrants in the competition that involved identifying sites on local roads where three or more speed related crashes have occurred.

Council roading contractor Fulton Hogan sponsored the major prize of a set of tyres, won by Mr Carey, and L. Lamb and C. Johnson won petrol vouchers.

Mr Carey thanked Fulton Hogan for supporting the promotion and suggested that drivers ensure their vehicles were ready for winter and drive to the conditions.

Keith Cocking, Fulton Hogan Area Manager said tyre condition and speed were important parts of the road safety equation.

“As well as building and maintaining safe roads we often find ourselves dealing with the aftermath of road accidents, so we are keen to see drivers slowing down and keeping themselves and their families safe. We also appreciate it when drivers slow down when they pass our road work sites, helping to keep our workers safe as well”.
