Workshops will be held around the region teaching parents the benefits of re-usable cloth nappies on Friday 15 and Saturday 16 June.

It’s estimated that seven million disposable nappies are thrown into New Zealand landfills each week and that in a household with one baby, disposable nappies could constitute up to 50 per cent of their total household waste.

The workshops aim to show parents modern nappy options and explain how different styles of nappies work – - helping parents choose the best nappy for their baby and budget and reduce waste.

Wellington City Council and Hutt City Council are supporting ‘The Nappy Lady’ workshops by providing trial cloth nappy packs for residents attending the workshops.

The first workshop will be held at Dowse Art Museum on Friday 15 June from 10am–12 noon. This workshop is free for all Hutt City residents or $20 for everyone else.

The second workshop will be held Southern Cross Bar and Restaurant on Saturday 16 June from 10.30am–12.30pm. The Wellington workshop costs $20. Register for ‘The Nappy Lady’ workshops at eventfinder.co.nz

People can also attend a Green Parent workshop which includes an introduction to Porirua City Council’s cloth nappy hire scheme as well as a DIY workshop on baby food or cloth nappy making. Held at Brandon Intermediate School (32 Driver Crescent, Porirua) on Saturday 16 June from 1–4pm. It’s free for Porirua residents or $10 for everyone else.
