Tasman Motorsports Group (TMG) completed their first race weekend in V8 SuperTourers with two strong performances in the final two Sunday races.

TMG driver Daniel Gaunt, steered clear of crashes in the Sunday morning race to finish 8th after starting 14th on the grid.

The Sunday afternoon race saw Gaunt and the #31 TMG Ford Falcon FG ‘Abe’ finish just outside the top 10 in 11th place.

Today’s second race wasn’t as smooth as the first, on the first lap Gaunt was hit by another car, which damaged the front left tyre, knocking out a lot of the car’s speed.

“We were looking forward to race 3, we had good rubber, and unfortunately I got caught up at the start which compromised the race. Overall we’ve done a lot of work on the car and we’re looking forward to the enduro’s,” says Gaunt.

Team Principal Steve Horne said he is pleased with the team’s performance this weekend.

“We’ve gone very well for our first race weekend in this new series. Tasman, hasn’t raced since 1998 in the US Indy Car Series, so to come here, put a new car, driver, and team together and have a competitive fielding in this series is fantastic,” says Horne.

“A top ten finish is a great result for us, we can certainly build on this going forward. It is a great confidence boost ahead of the three endurance races later in the year.”
