Correction to Queen's Birthday Weekend road crash figures
Police advise that due to a data error, the incorrect information regarding the number of road crashes attended by Police for Queen’s Birthday Weekend was supplied.
Acting Road Policing Manager Inspector Rob Morgan said information supplied to media yesterday (Monday 4 June) had originally indicated that more than 800 crashes had occurred – more than double those at the same point in time for the previous year.
However, Mr Morgan said further inquiries regarding the apparent “spike” revealed the technical error, which had led to the figure being revised and corrected.
“The actual figure as at 6.00am today (when the Queen’s Birthday Weekend road policing period officially ends) is 431 crashes – up two for the same time period last year,” he said.
The weekend fatality numbers remain unchanged.
Mr Morgan said Police apologised for the error.
