Members of the public have held the floor inside the Council Chambers this week with councillors doing the listening as part of the public feedback on Council’s proposed Long Term Plan.

More than 60 members of the public fronted up to speak in person to councillors about the contents of the Plan.

Some individuals, but most representing groups or organisations, they wanted to talk about matters ranging from skate parks and swimming pools to economic development and environmental protection.

Submissions covered the full spectrum, from one man who wanted Council to meet the cost of mowing the grass berm outside his house to another who implored Council to take a strong line against any extra expenses which would lead to rate increases.

Councillors will have time to consider this feedback on the contents of the Plan, plus the other 150 other written submissions received, before making a final decision on what is in, or out, before the Plan is formally adopted at the end of this month.
