There is only one more week left to comment on the proposed urban development of the Upper Styx-Harewood area (Plan Change 71).

The Christchurch City Council is preparing an Outline Development Plan for the area which will provide the framework for future development of the new suburb and everyone is encouraged to provide feedback on the Plan Change, says Council Regulatory & Planning Committee Chair Councillor Sue Wells.

“The Outline Development Plan is like a blueprint for how the area will develop and it’s important we get wide input on what is planned.”

Cr Wells says the Outline Development Plan will determine the main roads which will run through the area, the stormwater and detention areas, recreation and other reserves and the various densities of housing.  It will also include the possible locations for neighbourhood shops, pedestrian links and cycleways.

The Upper Styx-Harewood development will provide a choice of living options, the Outline Development Plan identifying where the higher density residential housing would be located in the area.  Under the Canterbury Regional Policy Statement the new suburb will need to provide for a minimum density of 15 households per hectare.

Comments on the proposed urban development of the Upper Styx-Harewood area close at 5pm on Monday 18 June.
