News that ACC Chair John Judge will leave the corporation at the end of the month is ‘politically convenient’ but doesn’t let the Minister off the hook, says Labour’s spokesperson for ACC Andrew Little.

“John Judge has become the fall guy for National’s failure to restore public trust and confidence in our world-class accident insurance agency.

“But the buck stops with Judith Collins. She cannot continue to hide behind investigations by other agencies.

“John Judge did what Nick Smith asked him to do which was to cut costs at the expense of legitimate claims from New Zealanders.

“Judith Collins should instruct the new Chair to adopt a different approach and to put people above profit.

“A major change to the culture of ACC is well overdue and only the Minister can lead it. It is time for her to act,” Andrew Little said.
