Help is at hand for people setting up their own business.

New Plymouth District Council has released Taking Care of Business, a step by step guide through local government requirements for business owners.

“There are plenty of rules and regulations for a new business owner to navigate and we want to make that as easy as possible,” says Manager Customer and Regulatory Services Simon Pickford.

“We have case managers to guide people, and now this booklet to lay out very clearly everything that a new business owner will have to consider at the very start of their planning. We want to save our customers time, unnecessary stress and needless expense.”

The booklet covers site selection; the professionals who are needed to develop a business project; building and renovation; the construction phase; water, stormwater and sewerage services; getting approvals; ongoing business compliance; and business support.

There are also case studies and a handy pull-out checklist.

“Owners of established businesses who want to change or improve what they’re doing will also find handy information in this booklet,” says Mr Pickford.

Taking Care of Business is available at the Civic Centre and district libraries, and online at newplymouthnz.com.
