On Sunday 24 June, the public is invited to make its way to Britomart Station to explore – inside and out – the all-new, state-of-the-art Northern Explorer train before it hits the tracks. This is the only chance to see the new carriages before they go in to service!

Open from 10:30am to 3:00pm everyone is welcome to come and check out the new, locally-built carriages, designed especially for KiwiRail Scenic Journeys passenger services, including the Northern Explorer. This service launches the next day – Monday 25 June.

With a band, balloon entertainers and plenty of photo opportunities with the newest addition to the KiwiRail fleet, this will be a fun day out for all the family.

Designed with Kiwis and international visitors in mind, the new Northern Explorer service is perfect for those who want to experience the heart of the country in a single day.

The carriages feature extra-large windows and skylight windows for great viewing, automated at-seat commentary, an onboard café offering a selection of food and beverages with a quintessential Kiwi flavour, and an impressive open air carriage for the ultimate viewing experience.

The Northern Explorer will stop at Hamilton, National Park, Ohakune and Palmerston North before ending the journey in Wellington. The new service operates 6 days a week departing Auckland on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays and Wellington on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
