Five Minutes with Hannah McQueen

Financial Personal Trainer and presenter on TV’s ‘Save our Home’ Hannah McQueen says most people can't stick to a budget over a prolonged timeframe, so it is critical to ensure they can still live the life they want. “Everyone knows how to budget - it's a science. The art is in addressing the obstacles."
We caught up with Hannah and asked her a few questions about her life.

How do manage your workload and achieve a balance in your life?

I work very hard and am very productive. I have set time to do allocated tasks and I make sure that I complete the task within that time. To be honest though, it is only in the last 18 months that I feel I have achieved some form a balance. Not surprisingly, this came about when I decided I was allowed to say “no” to people’s requests, and make myself and my family more of a priority.

Did you have a mentor? If yes, who was it and how did they help you to get where you are now?

No I don’t have a mentor, although I intend to get one later this year. I have recently come to a point where I believe I am capable of doing more, but I need someone to unlock this for me.

What has been your greatest achievement so far?

Personal: My family.
Work: Building a successful business that changes people’s lives and makes me look forward to coming to work every day.

What would you grab first if your house was on fire?

Assuming my family was safe – old photos, a wooden box (family heirloom) and my handbag (with wallet in it).

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

Chasing my son along Kohi beach every weekend.

About Hannah McQueen

When Hannah McQueen was little, she wanted to be the manager of a fish-and-chip shop. As she got older, her dreams grew too, the thought of becoming a chief executive foremost in her mind at high school.

After reading that 80 per cent of chief executives were accountants, she set her sights on an accountancy career and became a chartered accountant, with a master's degree in taxation law. At just 29 years old, she is managing director of her own company, enableMe, a financial advisory firm based in Auckland and Wellington.
