Swimmers at the Havelock North Village pool will notice a major improvement in water clarity next summer.

Hastings District Council is to undertake a $1.1m project at the pool which will include improvements to the filtration plant which will increase the water clarity, a major upgrade of the changing facilities, improved spectator facilities and changes which will enable easier access to the pool for people with mobility challenges.

Deputy Mayor Cynthia Bowers says “This is the start of a major programme which will see all of the district’s pools modernized over the next 3 years. Along with improved water clarity and upgraded changing facilities, there will be improvements made in sustainability and energy efficiency.”

Cynthia Bowers says “A landscaping project is also included in the Havelock North Village pool upgrade which will give the whole complex a new, more modern look.”

The complex is currently closed for winter. The upgrade started this week and will be completed by the summer swimming season.

The Havelock North Village Pool complex has five pools including a 33 metre long main pool, a two metre deep pool, a toddlers pool, a babies pool and a learners pool.

Council’s 2012/22 Long Term Plan also includes upgrades to other pools around the district. The projects include improving the water clarity, changing facilities and disability access at Waterworld in Flaxmere (2012/13), Frimley (2013) and Clive (2013/14).

Remedial work on the roof of the Waterworld Indoor Pool complex will take place at the same time as the pool upgrade (2012/13).
