Revamp for Popular Ngamotu Beach Toilets
The doors have closed temporarily on the popular Ngamotu Beach toilets – but the public won’t be caught short.
Temporary toilets have been provided while New Plymouth District Council remodels the toilet block.
Manager Parks Assets Steve Mcgill says the work is part of the Council’s district-wide strategy, started in 2006, of upgrading existing public toilets and supplying new facilities where required.
“The upgrade at Ngamotu will make a big difference to users – especially for those with limited mobility, and for women who have had to manage with just one toilet cubicle,” he says.
“On a busy day at the beach there is often a queue outside the ladies’.”
The upgrade will enlarge the women’s section from one cubicle to three, and a separate accessible toilet will be provided. The men’s section will have the urinal replaced with individual urinal facilities.
The building will also be re-roofed in a similar style to other new public toilets in the district.
The work is expected to be completed in late September.
