Look- then look again is message from Police after 7 injured in Waikato crash
Look, then look again is the message from Waikato Police as emergency services work to clear the scene of a multiple casualty crash outside a private school north of Cambridge this afternoon.
Sergeant Gordon Grantham of the Cambridge Police said emergency services were called to the scene of the crash about 3.23pm and arrived to find a number of people seriously hurt.
"An investigation by the Waikato Serious Crash Unit is just commencing but initial indications are a car with a 34-year-old mother and four children on board has been coming out of the southern driveway of St Peters School and the driver has not seen an approaching northbound car.
"The vehicles have collided resulting in serious injuries being suffered by the four adult occupants of the northbound car while the mother driving the south bound car has also suffered serious injury, as has her two year old child."
Mr Grantham said another child in the car, believed aged six, suffered moderate injuries and all seven casualties were taken to Waikato Hospital by ambulance.
"SH1 is currently closed to allow a preliminary scene examination to be conducted by crash investigators and traffic management and diversions are in place.
"This crash happened at a time of bright light while the sun was dropping which can pose a challenge for drivers negotiating our roads in such conditions. Our advice to drivers is not to let their concentration lapse and if need be, check- then check again for oncoming traffic."
