The new Splash Pad to be installed as part of a major upgrade of Flaxmere Park will have more features than originally planned, thanks to a generous grant from the Trust House Community Enterprise, with support from the Flaxmere Licensing Trust.

Funding of $130,000 had been approved by council to build a basic Splash Pad with a single, above ground play feature. During the design phase it become obvious that the addition of further play features would increase the attraction of the zero depth water playground, but external funding would be required if this was to occur.

The trust has approved a grant for $21,430, which will allow the installation of a Sky Brella and two wiggly junior play pieces. These features will complement the hoop tunnel which was included in the original design.

Flaxmere Councillor Henare O’Keefe says, “The Splash Pad will be another fantastic attraction for the young people of Flaxmere. It was always going to be a wonderful feature of the upgraded park and being able to include two extra above ground features will make it that much better.”

Fellow Councillor Jacoby Poulain says, “Flaxmere specifically requested the installation of a Splash Pad similar to the one at Cornwall Park.  It’s awesome that it’s about to be installed, and I know that it will prove extremely popular for our families and children over summer, especially with the extra play features.”

Work on installing the Splash Pad is scheduled to begin in August, with a tentative completion date at the end of October.
