Growing numbers of Scouts in North Canterbury will see a den moved from Greta Valley and transported to Rolleston in the early hours of Thursday 12 July.

The den will arrive around dawn, transported to its new home at 27B Moore Street, which is on the main Rolleston Reserve between the Playcentre and the tennis courts.

The plan is to start the transportation at around 11pm tonight arriving at sun up in Rolleston. It has to be done at night and in the early hours of the morning to allow the road to be closed. It will also take a long route as it can’t fit under the overpasses on the Northern Motorway, which means the den will travel out through Ashley-Rangiora and then back onto the motorway on the last entry before the city.

With an increasing population out Rolleston way, with Christchurch people relocating after the earthquakes, the numbers wanting to join Scouts or Cubs in that area have increased from around 30 to more than 80. The current den is therefore too small and with a den available in Greta Valley, and now after several months of planning, the entire scout den will be relocated to Rolleston.
