The University of Auckland welcomes the opportunity to partner with ATI

The country’s largest research institution has welcomed today’s announcement of the establishment of the Advanced Technology Institute, (ATI).

The University of Auckland’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Stuart McCutcheon, welcomes the mandate given to a business-focused ATI to help ensure that high-tech firms connect with innovation expertise and facilities across the country.

“With our world-leading researchers, outstanding research infrastructure and  very high level of current industry engagement – more than 2500 current contracts run through our commercialisation company, Uniservices - The University of Auckland will work as closely as possible with ATI to actively encourage businesses to innovate by drawing upon the capabilities of the University.

“We look forward to working with more businesses to help build competitive industries across New Zealand”, Professor McCutcheon says.

The Prime Minister and Minister of Business, Innovation and Employment today announced the detail of ATI, which will have centres in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.

Professor McCutcheon recognises that there is an intense few months ahead with ATI to be launched on 1 December.

“The University of Auckland looks forward to working closely with the ATI’s Establishment Board to ensure this new agency in the country’s innovation network is a success,” he says.
