Street enhancements will create a more vibrant look and feel in the Clive town centre.

The project begins this week and includes a kerb extension outside the main strip of shops and resurfacing of the footpaths. New seating, bike racks, and rubbish bins will be installed, along with a tree planting programme which will enhance the landscape along Clive’s main road. The upgrade will be completed with the resealing of the main carparking area in early October.

Councillor Rod Heaps says “This upgrade is very timely for Clive residents and comes following the completion of work on other shopping areas around the district. The town centre is not just a shopping destination; it is a meeting place for residents and this project will create an attractive and vibrant area which everyone will be very proud of.”

Councillor Ru Collin says “Clive is already a great place to live and visit but we want it to be even better. This project will create a very positive change to the look and feel of the shopping centre. I am very pleased that council is able to undertake this work and believe that it will be a catalyst that will spark a new, positive feeling in the town centre. This enhancement work will be complemented by the development of the pathway that will link Hastings with Clive and together, these projects will provide a great boost for the township.”

The work is to be carried out in three stages:

  • from Williamson Street to the pedestrian crossing
  • from the pedestrian crossing to School Road
  • footpath areas outside the shops on the northern side of the main road

The work is scheduled to begin today (Monday 16th July) and will be completed by Friday August 24th. The final resealing of the main car parking area is scheduled to begin in early October and will take five days to complete.
