Curtain Bank Needs Supplies
During winter many families struggle to keep their houses warm.
For those on low incomes it's particularly challenging. One way you can help Wellington families to keep cosy is by donating old curtains and curtain rails to the Wellington Curtain Bank.
The curtain bank - run by the Sustainability Trust - repairs and lines second-hand curtains to give to families with community services cards. The bank urgently needs more curtains for winter after donating more than 500 pairs of curtains to low-income families since April.
Up to 30 percent of the heat in a room is lost through the windows and lined curtains can be as effective as double glazing in retaining heat.
Closing the curtains makes a real difference and helps to reduce power bills. Having healthy, warm and energy-efficient homes is part of our goal to develop Wellington as an eco-city.
Curtains can be dropped off at:
- Sustainability Trust, 2 Forresters Lane (9.00am - 5.00pm, weekdays)
- Citizens Advice Bureau, 56 Bay Road, Kilbirnie (9.00am - 3.00pm daily, until 5.30pm Thursdays) or 16 Hagley Street, Porirua (9.00am - 4.00pm, weekdays)
- City Housing, level 4, Central Library, Victoria Street (9.00am - 4.00pm, weekdays).
