Kapiti Police charge man over damage to train carriages in Waikanae

Kapiti Police have arrested a 41 year old man in relation to tagging of train carriage units in the Waikanae stabling yard.

Sergeant Jacquie Muir of the Kapiti Police says the man was arrested yesterday as a result of a search warrant.

"Police have charged him with eight counts of intentional damage between 29 May and 26 July 2012, where it's alleged the man tagged various train carriages."

Sergeant Muir says damager such as graffiti to train carriages costs Kiwi Rail a considerable amount of money and resources.

"Where Police become aware of offending occurring, we will investigate and prosecute those responsible, on behalf of Kiwi Rail."

The man will appear in the Porirua District Court on Tuesday for his first appearance.
