LOWER HUTT

Penelope Trought, left, of Lower Hutt and Jacinta Fagaiava, of Wainuiomata, show their delight after finishing the first class in a computer training programme running at libraries in the city.

The council and the 2020 Communications Trust are running the free computer and internet training for adults at libraries in Wainuiomata, Naenae and Lower Hutt. The eight-week pilot of the trust’s Stepping UP programme has proved highly popular, with a waiting list of 45 people for the computer literacy classes. More classes will be arranged to help clear the backlog.

The eight modules in the Stepping UP initiative, which the trust plans eventually to expand nationally, include word processing, spreadsheets, Powerpoint presentations, the internet, online trading, employment readiness, social media and digital design.
