Always look on the bright side of life ...

Always a great reminder, and here’s another one: Drivers, always look at the road behind you before you open your car door.

There are more and more cyclists on the road, so take that extra second to look in your mirrors before you swing open your door, because there could be a cyclist about to cycle by. They go faster than you think, so actively look for anything that could turn out to be an oncoming cyclist. They may be cycling closer to parked cars than is ideal, to keep out of the way of passing traffic. Wait those few seconds for the cyclist to pass before opening your door.

And cyclists - always look at where you are on the road. Remember that car doors reach out towards you by at least a metre when they are open. To be safe in town, ride beyond the reach of car doors when riding beside parked cars.
