Cycling and walking facilities feature in Flaxmere Park redevelopment
New cycling and walking paths and a paved walking promenade will feature in the redevelopment of Flaxmere Park.
Work on the park upgrade will begin on Monday, August13th and stage one is scheduled for completion by mid-November. The work includes:
- New cycle and walking paths;
-
A landscaped carpark off Swansea Road;
- A paved walking promenade through the park;
-
Additional lighting;
- Enhanced children’s playground, including additional play equipment and Splash Pad (similar to the Splash Pad at Cornwall Park)
- A new toilet facility
A generous donation from the Trust House Community Enterprise, with support from the Flaxmere Licensing Trust, will allow the installation of a “skybrella” and two wiggly junior play pieces on the Splash Pad. These were part of stage two of the project but the extra funding has allowed them to be installed during stage one.
The redevelopment includes options which were identified by the public during the creation of the Flaxmere Park Reserve Management Plan. The plan was adopted by Council in December 2011.
The work will require parts of the park to be closed to the public on some occasions and park users are reminded that they must keep children safe when they are near the construction sites. Contractors will not start work before 7am and will finish by 6pm in order to lessen the impact of noise on neighbouring properties.
