The following statement can be attributed to Bruce Gedye, father of Stephen Kahukaka-Gedye, missing off Paritutu Rock, New Plymouth since Wednesday afternoon:

'On behalf of our family, we would like to thank all of those involved in the search for Stephen, Felipe and Bryce.

We are hearing stories of people who are using their own boats and canoes to search. So many people are asking how they can help, including people we don't even know. Your kindness is hugely appreciated.

Special thanks to our extended family for your love, support and generosity at this time.

Shell Todd has funded a helicopter to assist in the search and we are so grateful for your generosity.

We appreciate everyone who turned out to last night's vigil at Paritutu Rock. Your thoughts and words spoken there last night are appreciated.

We would also like to especially thank Spotswood College pupils and Principal Mark Bowden and Deputy Principal Darren Shaw for their support at this tough time.

Thank you too to all of the volunteers and the emergency service personnel who are continuing to search. Please keep trying and let's hope we can bring Stephen, Felipe and Bryce home.'
