Works have begun to transform the former Troutline building and surrounding area on Pier 87 into an improved boat maintenance and servicing facility.

The re-development at Pier 87 in Rauhoto Street, will include new boat maintenance and spray booth buildings, three additional boat related business units, fuel supply and waste disposal facilities and a secure concrete yard with stormwater filters.

This project follows on from the recent enhancement of the car and boat trailer parking and storage area on the Nukuhau Boat Ramp Area Reserve. It is the next stage of implementation of the Nukuhau Boat Ramp Area Reserve Management Plan, which was adopted by Council in June 2005.

“It is great to see the development of the new boat maintenance and servicing facilities come to fruition,” said Deputy Mayor Christine McElwee, who has been involved with the project since it was first instigated.

“The various sections of the community that comprised the Nukuhau Boat Area Working Party should feel proud to have helped achieve much improved boat servicing facilities and consequent significant environmental benefits, for the lake and boat harbour,” she said.

Special Project Manager, Carl Jones said “The new facilities will better meet the requirements of the lakes commercial and recreational boat users.”

The works are expected to take between 16-20 weeks to complete.
