School-aged children in the Hutt are a more active lot, judging by latest participation figures for the KiwiSport programme.

In the 12 months to June 30, more than 81,000 lessons were run for Hutt City children in swimming, football and movement lessons. A fourth type of lesson, Get Set Go, run in conjunction with Athletics New Zealand, began this financial year. The initiative to promote sport among school-aged children is funded by the Ministry of Education and administered by Sport New Zealand with help from the council.
