An audience of 130 people turned out to a public forum last Friday, an initiative of the Council’s economic development arm to publicise the opportunities on offer to Marlborough through the rebuild of Christchurch.

Marlborough Mayor Alistair Sowman says it was a chance for people here to learn about the work emerging in Christchurch, the products and services that will be in demand, and the scale of the workforce that is going to be required as well as some of the obstacles that exist.

The speakers stressed the opportunity is there for local firms prepared to start thinking differently about the way they might do business with the rapidly growing Christchurch market. For example, Marlborough could become something of a beachhead for prefabricated products, not just a source of skills and labour.

For anyone who missed the Forum or who has follow-up questions, contact the Chamber of Commerce, Ph: 03 577 9575 or email enquiries@mcoc.org.nz
