Tom Loots was crowned the winner of the New Zealand Stella Artois Draught Masters competition. Loots, from De Fontein in Mission Bay Auckland, was judged on his precision, technique, passion and showmanship by a panel of judges that included 5th generation ABI Brewmaster George Reisch from Missouri, USA.

After a fierce competition, with 20 contestants vying for the top honour at the National Finals held at The Restaurant & Bar Show in Auckland, Loots will now go on to compete in the world championships in Montreal in October.

“Representing New Zealand in such a prestigious competition is a dream come true,” says Tom.  “Kiwi’s have won the world title three times since the competition began and I’m ready to be number four.  I’m going to give it my all to win the world title for myself and New Zealand.”

In its 15th year, the Stella Artois World Draught Masters competition attracts entrants from up to 36 different countries annually.

The judging panel this year included George Reisch from ABI, NZ Draught Master Winner 2011 Emere-Reid Spencer, Stella Artois Marketing Manager DavePearce and Laura Smith, Stella Artois’ Quality Assurance Manager.

“The level of competition was extremely high this year, more so than ever before with bartenders up and down the country perfecting the craft of a 9-step pour of Stella Artois,” says Kara Barnett, Stella Artois Brand Manager.  “We’re extremely happy for Tom and his win is a testament to his skill and showmanship. We wish him the best of luck for the world championships and encourage Aucklanders to enjoy the perfect pour at De Fontein today.”
