Linwood Village Master Plan adopted

Christchurch City Council today gave the final sign-off on the Council-led master plan for the recovery and rebuild of Linwood Village (the area centred around Stanmore Road / Worcester Street).

Programme Manager District Planning Brigitte de Ronde says communities in the Suburban Centres Programme are now seeing the results of their commitment and vision for their suburban centres, with the adoption of another master plan.

“The local community have been very involved in the development of this master plan, and it has a high level of community support. Their input, particularly around the need for quality pedestrian environments and cycle lanes, gave us the knowledge we needed to deliver a strong and liveable plan for the future of this centre.”

Mayor Bob Parker says, “The adoption of this master plan is a big step towards the recovery of this important service area, to put it back on the map as a thriving, lively local village – a focal point for surrounding suburbs.”

Printed copies of the final master plan are expected to be available in late September.

Council’s elected members have now approved four of the Council’s eight master plans in the Suburban Centres Programme: Sydenham, Lyttelton, Selwyn Street Shops and Linwood Village.

The remaining four master plans are at varying stages in the master planning process: both the Draft Ferry Road (Part 1 – Fitzgerald Avenue to Ferrymead Bridge) and Draft Sumner Village Centre Master Plan are due to go to Council before the end of the year. Council staff are currently working on drafting the New Brighton Centre and Edgeware Village master plans.
