Newtown Park Upgrade

We're going to close Newtown Park in September for about four months for renewal work.

The running track is due for replacement because of wear, particularly in high-use areas including the running lanes in the 100-metre section and the starting block area. While we have repaired the worst affected areas in recent years, it's now time to renew the whole track. Once completed, the new track will again be world-class - one of the best running tracks in New Zealand.

We're also taking the opportunity to renovate the surface of the park's soccer field by sanding and re-sowing it. The running track should be ready for use in January 2013.
