Enquiries continuing into Hutt Valley teenager's death
Hutt Valley Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of a 16 year old male near the Hutt River yesterday.
Acting officer in charge of the Hutt Valley CIB Detective Senior Sergeant Dave Thornton says a post-mortem examination has been carried out this morning on the body of Michael Lafou, of Naenae.
"A preliminary cause of death is yet to be established at this stage and further tests will be carried out in due course, however, Michael's death is not being treated as suspicious."
Dave Thornton says Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death, including his movements on Tuesday evening.
"We are speaking with witnesses and family members and are currently in the process of reviewing Hutt City Council CCTV footage of the area. There are several hours of footage to review and this is expected to take some time to complete."
Police would still like to hear from anyone who was in the vicinity of the Hutt River near the Riverside Carpark either on Tuesday evening or early yesterday morning.
"Anyone with any information should contact Hutt Valley Police on (04) 560 2600 or phone Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
Police are providing support to Michael's family at this difficult time.
