The Christchurch City Council has, for 18 months, completely ignored the rock fall risk to hundreds of Port Hills residents - caused by rocks on City Council property.  They have undertaken no remediation work and have completely refused to progress rockfall protection, despite having funding for such protection in their budget.  They have issued Section 124 notices to residents, forbidding them to live in their own homes because of this risk.  They have even gone to the extent of hiring a private detective, paid for by ratepayers' money, to spy on those who returned to their own homes to live.  This has caused community breakdown and dislocation and imposed significant emotional and financial stress on families.

Today, the City Council has announced that they are undertaking rock stabilisation work around the Christchurch Gondola.  I assume that this is in order for the Gondola to be able to operate safely in the future.

My question for the Council is - "Why is it good enough to make the Gondola safe, but not local residents in their own homes and communities", Ruth Dyson, Member of Parliament, Port Hills
