Roman van Uden of PureBlack Racing won Stage 13 of the Tour of Murray River on Saturday afternoon.

Team Captain van Uden won the 47.1km road race just a head of Australian Caleb Jones from GMP Wilson Racing after the perfect lead out by teammate Louis Crosby.

Van Uden said, “Louie [Crosby] and I knew we needed to put something together towards the end of the race in order to get out front, he lead me out perfectly and I sprinted from the corner and put a gap between me and the finish line. We knew we had to be first out of that corner.”Director Sportif of PureBlack Racing, John Harris, is ecstatic with van Uden’s first win of 2012.

Director Sportif of PureBlack Racing, John Harris, is ecstatic with van Uden’s first win of 2012.

Harris said, “He just had to win in a race like this, he has been so focused on being the captain and I’ve been telling him that it is possible to be a captain and win. Louis did an excellent job leading him out and it came down to a complete team effort with Taylor [Gunman] and [James] McCoy riding excellently as well.”

PureBlack Racing arrive home from Melbourne today for three weeks of training before the team returns to Australia for the Tour of Tasmania which begins on October 2.

The Tour of Tasmania will mark the team’s final international race for the year after competing in 68 days of racing across four continents - a marked increase on the 50 days completed in their inaugural season in 2011.

The Tour of Murray River and the Tour of Tasmania are two of four races that make up the Australian National Road Series (Scody Cup), which attracts cycling teams such as Genesys Wealth Advisors Professional Cylcling and Drapac Professional Cyling.

At the conclusion of the Scody Cup, PureBlack Racing will head south to race in the Tour of Southland; New Zealand’s premiere stage race.

Harris said, “The Tour of Southland is what we have been building up for - the boys have come together nicely, and we will be looking to race really well down in Invercargill.”
